Dice, Northlands Play Area, Chester-le-Street. Sandstone, Sixteen pieces of various dimensions. 2011.
Client: Durham County Council.
'Dice' is a sculptural installation of sixteen giant natural stone boulders cut and carved into the shape of Roman dice. The dice sculptures are inspired by Chester-le- Streets Roman history, play and the need for seating around the recently installed play area.
The dice sculptures are intended to look old and worn like the ones that would have been used in games played by soldiers stationed at Congangis or passing through on their way to Hadrian’s wall.
